  • At Lily & Farron, we pride ourselves on being collaborative, honest, and straightforward. We're here to guide the process, bring ideas to the table, and keep things moving.

  • Whether you have an entire page of writing or just a few words, the process is the same. I begin with a draft — sometimes two or three — to ensure the script suits the tone and formality of your occasion. For flourished calligraphy, extra care is taken to avoid untidy clashes between strokes and decorative elements; drafts are refined until the composition reads effortlessly.

A suitable draft will be photographed and sent to you for approval. Once you sign off, I proceed to the final piece. For one‑chance applications, such as book inscriptions, I treat the final stroke as definitive, so I ensure every detail is agreed before I put pen to paper.

  • Please allow a minimum of two weeks to turn around your project. This of course depends on how much is involved in your project and what is already booked in- sometimes it can be less. Needless to say, the more time you can allow, the less stress there is. (If a fast overnight turnaround is required, an additional fee will be added).

  • I usually use gouache thinned to ink; it provides dependable, consistent colour and won’t bleed the way some liquid inks can on certain papers. Avoid heavily textured papers and shiny or coated stocks — texture can catch the pointed nib, slow the ink flow, and make your lettering look uneven, while coated or glossy paper won’t absorb the ink properly. If you’re unsure which paper to choose, send me a few samples along with your idea and I’ll advise; bring extras for colour tests, bleed checks and to cover any mistakes. Please note that all inks and paints I use (watercolour or gouache) are water-soluble.

  • Absolutely — we’ll need to organise our timing. Please note: standard post, express post or courier costs will be added to your order.
